{"id":8476,"date":"2011-12-01T07:23:48","date_gmt":"2011-12-01T13:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thecakeblog.com\/?p=8476"},"modified":"2014-11-26T15:47:48","modified_gmt":"2014-11-26T20:47:48","slug":"diy-modern-christmas-cookies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/2011\/12\/diy-modern-christmas-cookies.html","title":{"rendered":"DIY: Modern Christmas Cookies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Callye of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetsugarbelle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle<\/a> is stopping by to share some of her cookie magic&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For some reason, many people don&#8217;t think they are capable of decorating perfect sugar cookies.\u00a0 This is simply untrue.\u00a0 With a little practice and experience ANYONE can create beautiful cookies.\u00a0 Today I&#8217;m going to share a fun little tip to help you along on your cookie decorating journey.\u00a0 I used it to make my latest set of Christmas cookies.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Chevron &amp; Christmas Tree Cookies\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/chevron_christmas_cookies1.jpg\" alt=\"Chevron &amp; Christmas Tree Cookies\" width=\"546\" height=\"713\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I call this the impression trick.\u00a0 Before baking, I used a cookie cutter to lightly stamp the dough.\u00a0 This leaves an impression on the cookie that will serve as a piping guide after baking .<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/christmas_tree_cookie.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" width=\"546\" height=\"710\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the cookies have cooled, use piping icing and a #2 or #3 tip to outline the tree design, and after a minute of two of drying, fill with matching flood icing.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/christmas_tree_cookie_diy.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" width=\"546\" height=\"715\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the tree is still wet, drop colored dragees or pearl &#8220;ornaments&#8221; into the icing.\u00a0 Let the Tree area dry for about an hour, than outline and fill the rest of the cookie.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/christmas_tree_cookie_tutor.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas Tree Cookie Tutorial\" width=\"546\" height=\"666\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Let them dry overnight, and you&#8217;ll have beautiful perfect cookies.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Modern Christmas Tree Cookies\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/christmas_tree_cookies.jpg\" alt=\"Modern Christmas Tree Cookies\" width=\"546\" height=\"424\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I&#8217;ll use a #1.5 tip to outline the tree or add a few more ornaments the next day.\u00a0  I like to create collections of simple coordinating cookies with lots of texture and visual interest.\u00a0 This makes even the simplest of cookie designs appear amazing.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left\" title=\"Modern Christmas Tree Cookies\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/mod_christmas_tree_cookies.jpg\" alt=\"Modern Christmas Tree Cookies\" width=\"546\" height=\"478\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This technique works for MANY different cookie themes.
