For this cake, I was inspired by these pretty pink ribbons<\/a>.\u00a0 I really loved the different shades of pink and the bright, cheery feel of the ribbons \u2013 they just made me happy.<\/p>\n

\"Pink<\/p>\n

I used my embedded stripes technique to create the design \u2013 the same technique I used in my black and white cake<\/a>, created for the 2015 Wedding Cake Preview<\/a>.\u00a0 The stripes are purposefully wonky (and this time only slightly embedded) to give the cake an organic feel \u2013 like it\u2019s wrapped in ribbon.<\/p>\n

\"Pink<\/p>\n

Although this cake is pink, it\u2019s not overtly \u2018Valentines\u2019 \u2013 which makes it a great design for lots of occasions.\u00a0 You could dress it up with a heart topper or make it for a baby shower or birthday party.\u00a0 You can also easily change the entire look simply by changing the color palette.\u00a0 But for now, let\u2019s keep it pink.\u00a0 It\u2019s sweet and pretty \u2013 and, well, it\u2019s Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t want to make a full-out striped cake, here\u2019s a simple way to make a bold impact: create striped cutouts to decorate your cakes, cupcakes and cookies.\u00a0 Let me show you how to make pink striped hearts!<\/p>\n

PINK STRIPED HEARTS<\/strong>

Supplies<\/em><\/p>\n

Fondant<\/a>\"\" in varying shades of pink
\nPizza Cutter
\nHeart Cutters<\/a>\"\"
\nFondant Rolling Pin<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

Roll out strips of fondant in varying shades of pink.\u00a0 Be sure to make one strip a bit wider than the others – this will be your base piece.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

Then use a pizza cutter to create narrower stripes (but keep your base piece intact).\u00a0 Feel free to cut wavy stripes like I did or use a ruler to make them straight and uniform.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

Apply a little bit of shortening onto the backs of the stripes and attach them to your base piece.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

Gently roll the fondant to embed the stripes into the base.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

Using a heart-shaped cutter, cut out your striped hearts.<\/p>\n

\"How<\/p>\n

Lay hearts on parchment paper or wax paper to dry.<\/p>\n

Once firm, use to decorate your cakes, cupcakes, and cookies!<\/p>\n
