and for some, especially the little ones, this is the best part.\u00a0 Kids thrive on messy fun.\u00a0 And this project definitely is messy fun!\u00a0 My toddler assistant loved watching me swirl marshmallow all around this cake, but officially crowned herself as the guardian of the candy eggs.\u00a0 Lucky for her (and me), there were a few eggs left over when this project was all said and done.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20414\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/easter_basket_cake_1.jpg\" alt=\"Easy Easter Basket Cake | a DIY by Carrie Sellman of TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"816\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/easter_basket_cake_1.jpg 546w, https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/easter_basket_cake_1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/easter_basket_cake_1-400x598.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 546px) 100vw, 546px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To top off this basket cake, I used <a title=\"Green Shimmer Sugar\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2DjkQVC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>green shimmery sprinkles<\/strong><\/a><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=thcabl0e-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B00JM8MVTO\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/strong> to create the look of sparkling grass.\u00a0 It made a soft little bed for the <strong><a title=\"Malted Milk Candy Eggs\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2UFKMW2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">candy eggs<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; round cake with chocolate frosting.\u00a0 Use your favorite recipe or one of our <strong><a title=\"cake recipes\" href=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/category\/recipes\">cake recipes<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Bake it from a mix.\u00a0 Or purchase one at the market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 2 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Combine marshmallows and cocoa in a microwave-safe bowl.\u00a0 Heat in microwave for 30 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3 :\u00a0<\/strong> Stir marshmallows.\u00a0 {Warning.\u00a0 Hot marshmallows will burn.\u00a0 And it hurts!} \u00a0Keep stirring. \u00a0Stir, stir, stir some more!\u00a0 Stir until marshmallows are cool enough to touch and cocoa is completely dissolved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4 :<\/strong> \u00a0This is where it gets messy.\u00a0 Or fun, depending on how you look at things.\u00a0 Using both hands, stretch a small glob of marshmallow out into a long, thin, stringy strand.\u00a0 <em>Way<\/em> longer and thinner than what is shown above (it was hard to get a picture of this exactly&#8230;
