<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\nValentine’s Day is just around the corner and that means it’s time for some lovely new tutorials and inspiration!\u00a0 Today’s DIY is an idea that’s been floating around in the back of my mind for three years now…. just waiting for me to give it a try.\u00a0 Finally, this silly little idea is making it to the blog.\u00a0 Good news is, I think they were worth the wait.\u00a0 Hopefully you agree!<\/p>\n
Remember those cute little pom pom art projects you used to make as a kid for Valentine’s day?\u00a0 You know the ones… pom pom bodies, googly eyes and little antenna ears. \u00a0\u00a0 Well, that childhood favorite is becoming a sweet little cupcake project.\u00a0 Super easy.\u00a0 Super simple.\u00a0 And fun enough to get the kids involved.\u00a0 It’s Love Bug Cupcakes<\/strong>!<\/p>\n Hold tight because these little furry guys are about to invade the blog…. it’s an attack of the Love Bug Cupcakes!\u00a0 And they’re here to kill you with cuteness.<\/p>\n Scurrying this way and that way… these Love Bug Cupcakes are just dying to ask you…<\/p>\n I obviously had way too much fun photographing these cupcakes!\u00a0 But I love their cute little faces and how their eyes can say so much, just by how you position them on the cupcake.\u00a0 Okay, let’s get to the tutorial, shall we?<\/p>\n DIY LOVE BUG CUPCAKES<\/strong> Supplies<\/em><\/p>\n cupcakes, baked without wrappers or wrappers removed STEP 1 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Roll out red fondant and cut out hearts using the large heart cutter.<\/p>\n STEP 2 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Repeat until you have one large heart for each of your cupcakes.<\/p>\n STEP 3 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Roll out more red fondant and cut out hearts using the small heart cutter. Repeat until you have four small hearts for each of your cupcakes.<\/p>\n STEP 4 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Place one small heart, pretty side down onto parchment paper.\u00a0 Place lollipop stick onto heart.\u00a0 Place second heart on top and press down to seal the two hearts together, lollipop stick inside.\u00a0 If fondant is too dry to seal together, lightly wet the inside with a light dab of water.<\/p>\n STEP 5 :\u00a0 <\/strong>Repeat until you have used up all of your small hearts.\u00a0 You should now have two of these sticks for each of your cupcakes.\u00a0 These are the antenna ears.<\/p>\n STEP 6 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Place one large heart, pretty side up onto parchment paper.\u00a0 Put a dab of icing onto the pointy end.\u00a0 Place cupcake on top, positioning over the pointy end.<\/p>\n STEP 7 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Fill a pastry bag with buttercream frosting<\/a><\/strong> and attach\u00a0pastry tip #233<\/a><\/strong> (aka, the Grass Tip because you use it to make grass-like decorations).\u00a0 Put the tip up against the cupcake and gently squeeze the bag while pulling straight out and away.\u00a0 Release pressure to finish the strands.\u00a0 Continue making short ‘hairs’ by moving just to the right of your first clump of hair and repeating the same motion to squeeze on more icing.\u00a0 Pipe a complete circle of icing all the way around the base of the cupcake.<\/p>\n NOTE :<\/strong>\u00a0 You may find it easier to gently hold the cupcake in one hand while piping with the other.<\/p>\n STEP 8 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Continue piping to cover the entire cupcake with icing.\u00a0 Circle up the cupcake, row after row.<\/p>\n STEP 9 :<\/strong>\u00a0 You’re almost there!\u00a0 Just a few more squeezes and your Love Bug will be completely covered in yummy icing.<\/p>\n STEP 10 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Insert two ears into top of cupcake.<\/p>\n STEP 11 :<\/strong>\u00a0 Gently push two\u00a0candy eyes<\/a><\/strong> <\/p>\n Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and that means it’s time for some lovely new tutorials and inspiration!
