It’s our third annual<\/strong> holiday series…. The 12 Cakes of Christmas<\/a><\/strong>!!\u00a0 We’re oohing and aahing over twelve marvelous cake designs, created especially for this series!\u00a0 All brand new, never seen before, and created by some of your favorite bakers! \u00a0\u00a0 For our theme this year, we’re taking a moment to reflect on our favorite Christmas memories and traditions.\u00a0 It’s a feel good month, celebrating the little things that make this season shine bright.\u00a0 Each of our featured bakers was asked to create a cake based on a classic Christmas tradition.<\/p>\n

We’re wrapping up the week with cake number four.\u00a0 Our fourth cake celebrates the focal point of our living rooms and the place where we draw our family close.\u00a0 The perch that we happily decorate year after year, adding a touch of coziness to our homes and cheer to our hearts.\u00a0 From stockings and vases to a touch of snow, we style it up pretty and watch it glow.\u00a0 The Fourth Cake of Christmas<\/strong> was inspired by…. the fireplace mantle!<\/p>\n

The fourth cake in our series comes to us from Rachael Teufel, owner of Intricate Icings Cake Design<\/a><\/strong> in <\/strong>Erie, Colorado.\u00a0 We’ve been loving on Rachael’s cakes for years and we’re thrilled that she’s back for a second run in our Christmas series.\u00a0 Rachael has such an elegant style and a unique flair when it comes to trends.\u00a0 She can take a trend and translate it into a fabulous cake design that’s exquisite and not at all “trendy”.\u00a0 She’s been on the front end of fabulous things like glitter, pom poms, burlap and dress-inspired cakes.\u00a0 Birds, billy balls and favorite things.\u00a0 I can’t even begin to recap them all, so I’ll just hit you with a link<\/a><\/strong> and let you browse through all of her features here on the blog.\u00a0 So it comes as no surprise that today’s cake is down right gorgeous and includes a home decor style that is soon to be the next cake trend!\u00a0 Mercury glass<\/strong>!\u00a0 It’s time for The 4th Cake of Christmas!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rachael of Intricate Icings Cake Design <\/a>shares the inspiration behind her design:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“When I think about my favorite Christmas traditions, decorating the mantle is high on my list… right after baking cookies and trimming the tree. \u00a0My inspiration for this cake is a snowy pine cone wreath filled with red cardinals and glass ornaments, as well as a stunning mercury glass vase with white florals and silver tinsel. \u00a0I combined elements of both inspiration pieces to create this simply stated cake that is full of details.”<\/p>\n

Rachael of Intricate Icings Cake Design\u00a0 <\/a>t<\/strong>ells us about her technique:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The base of this cake was created by texturing a modeling chocolate panel that was then coated in silver leaf transfer sheets to give the shimmering effect of Mercury glass. \u00a0I also used silver leaf on thin wires to create the look of tinsel. \u00a0The pine cones were made from modeling chocolate and sprayed with luster to give the texture of snow. \u00a0I hand sculpted the cardinal and added hand painted details to bring him to life.”<\/p>\n
