While I chose to use lemon extract, any clear extract or clear alcohol like vodka will work as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/watercolor_cake_4.jpg\" alt=\"How to paint a Watercolor Cake | by Allison Kelleher for TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"670\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the fondant is easy enough to handle, cut into shapes and apply to your cake.\u00a0 Design-wise, I used a free-form, organic aesthetic but then contained it within the stripes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/watercolor_cake_5.jpg\" alt=\"How to paint a Watercolor Cake | by Allison Kelleher for TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/watercolor_cake_2.jpg\" alt=\"How to paint a Watercolor Cake | by Allison Kelleher for TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"742\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I really enjoyed the process of painting \u2013 it was fun (and different) for me. It was a nice change from my more structured <strong><a title=\"Modern Mosaic Cakes with Allison Kelleher on Craftsy\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2pWHoWp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Modern Mosaic Cakes<\/a><\/strong>. With no rules, no right or wrong way to do it, there&#8217;s\u00a0no need to be precise!
