: Baked Apple Donuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I absolutely love this time of year!\u00a0 The crisp chill in the air and leaves turning every shade of golden.\u00a0 Apples and pumpkins are at their prime and ready for picking.\u00a0 Now that we live in Florida&#8230;. most days are sunny, bright and about 85 degrees.\u00a0 Warm skies and palm trees do not make for a typical fall.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get me wrong.\u00a0 I am not complaining about beautiful weather.\u00a0 After spending several years in Illinois, I certainly do not miss the zero degree, grey-skied winters.\u00a0 But I do miss sweaters and tall boots&#8230; the smell of leaves burning in the distance and the feeling of Autumn.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: none;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-27483\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/apple_donut_pv7.jpg\" alt=\"Baked Apple Donut Recipe | TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"600\" northern locale and hit the local orchard for some apple picking fun.\u00a0 We came home with a bushel of fresh-from-the-tree apples and a box of freshly fried apple donuts.\u00a0 Oh my goodness!\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure what was gone first.\u00a0 Okay, truth be told&#8230;. we enjoyed apples for weeks but the donuts were gone fast!\u00a0\u00a0 This year, we can&#8217;t just gaunt over to the nearest apple orchard.\u00a0 So I was thrilled to see the large displays of Honeycrisp Apples at the market.\u00a0 Into my basket went many large, gorgeous apples with the intent of recreating those delicious apple donuts at home.\u00a0 So that&#8217;s what I have for you today!\u00a0 Baked and delicious.\u00a0 Soft and tender on the inside with a serious cinnamon crunch on the outside.\u00a0 Filled with cups of grated apple, cinnamon and nutmeg.\u00a0 My recipe for <strong>Fresh Apple Donuts<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/apple_donut_41.jpg\" alt=\"Baked Apple Donut Recipe | TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"822\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After several variations of less apple, more apple, apple juice, applesauce, apple chunks&#8230; frying verses baking&#8230; I finally narrowed it down to this.\u00a0 A batter packed full of grated apple goodness with a serious cinnamon kick.\u00a0 I see it this way.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re going to the effort of making donuts at home, they should be noticeably different than something you can easily pick up at Dunkin.<\/p>\n<p>My original plan for these donuts included a salted caramel glaze.\u00a0 Which I still think would be absolutely incredible.\u00a0 But somewhere along the way, I decided less was more.\u00a0 I wanted this to be a recipe that you could easily make for breakfast.\u00a0 Without waking up at 5am to get started.\u00a0 So the end result is a recipe simple enough for your kids to help.\u00a0 My two year old daughter assisted me from beginning to {almost} end.\u00a0 Once the first batch came out of the oven, she was more interested in sampling than baking up the remaining batches.\u00a0 But hey, can you blame her?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"left aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/apple_donut_101.jpg\" alt=\"Baked Apple Donut Recipe | TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"546\" height=\"816\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Funny thing about these apple donuts.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not about to call them healthy because the words donut and healthy just aren&#8217;t meant to be together.\u00a0 <em>But<\/em>, they are filled with a cup and a half of fresh apple (fiber and all) and unsweetened, natural apple sauce.\u00a0 And they&#8217;re baked not fried.\u00a0 So I guess if you stretch it&#8230; you might be able to say these are a little better than something you pick up at the store.\u00a0 Can I call them healthy?\u00a0 Probably not.\u00a0 Can I call them delicious?\u00a0 Absolutely!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" fresh apple.<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-4\">Add 1\/3 of the flour mixture to the egg mixture.\u00a0 Stir with wooden spoon.\u00a0 Add another 1\/3 of flour mixture and stir.\u00a0 Add remaining flour and stir just until combined.<\/li>\n<li id=\"instruction-step-5\">Spoon batter into a large ziplock bag.\u00a0 Seal and snip the corner off one end.\u00a0 Squeeze batter into the cavities of a\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2dhoyjh\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">donut pan<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0sprayed with non-stick baking spray. Fill each cavity 2\/3 to 3\/4 of the way full. To help donuts keep their pretty shape when baking, use a clean finger to gently even out the batter in each cavity and clean off the center knob of the pan.
