And suddenly, I feel like I am five again and I feel as though Gramps is standing there with me. \u00a0At that moment, my childhood seems so vivid and, in a sense, almost tangible. \u00a0This\u00a0<strong>Lemon Citrus Cake<\/strong> is for Gramps.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24665\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_cake_slice_tutorial1.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Lemon Slices | how to make these easy cake and cupcake toppers | by Miso Bakes for TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"600\" height=\"1952\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_cake_slice_tutorial1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_cake_slice_tutorial1-184x600.jpg 184w, https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_cake_slice_tutorial1-315x1024.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>LEMON SLICE\u00a0CAKE TOPPERS<\/strong><br \/>\na DIY by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MisoBakes\" target=\"_blank\">Miso Bakes<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Supplies:<\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/1HaOqYb\" target=\"_blank\">Plain Round Cookie Cutters<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/TearDropCutter\" target=\"_blank\">Teardrop Cutter<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/1HI0tO5\" target=\"_blank\">Rose Piping Tip<\/a><br \/>\nSugarpaste in white and yellow<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 1:<\/strong> Choose a round cutter of your choice. \u00a0 Now choose a cutter directly one size up or down.\u00a0 Using the bigger of the two cutters, cut out a piece of white sugarpaste\u2014this will be the base on which you will build upon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 2:<\/strong> Again, using the bigger of the two cutters cut out a piece of yellow sugarpaste.\u00a0 Using the smaller cutter cut the center out of the circle.\u00a0 Glue the yellow ring onto the edge of the base piece\u2014this is the peel of the lemon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 3:<\/strong> Cut out a white circle using the smaller cutter\u2014this is the center of the lemon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 4:<\/strong> Roll out a piece of yellow sugarpaste.\u00a0 Using a rose piping tip, gently leave imprints all over the sugarpaste\u2014this will be the pulp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 5: <\/strong> Using a teardrop cutter, cut out a few holes in the white center piece.\u00a0 These are the cavities for the yellow lemon segments.\u00a0 Using the teardrop cutter, cut out segments from the yellow sugarpaste.\u00a0 Insert into the cavities in the white center piece.\u00a0 Let it sit for a few minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP 6:<\/strong> Wet the center of the base and insert the center piece to complete the lemon.\u00a0 Dry for a few hours or overnight and it will be ready to use!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24662\" src=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_slice_cake_4.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Lemon Slices | how to make these easy cake and cupcake toppers | by Miso Bakes for TheCakeBlog.com\" width=\"600\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_slice_cake_4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/thecakeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/lemon_slice_cake_4-400x353.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Use the lemon slices to decorate cakes or use as cupcake toppers! \u00a0To make limes or oranges, simply swap out the yellow with green or orange.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Summer!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fresh take on lemon, our contributor Miso Bakes is sharing a bold and bright Lemon Citrus Cake today&#8230;  Growing up, my grandparents always took my siblings and I on a long walk around the neighborhood after dinner.
